Braves Win the Junior AA Provincial Championship
The Junior Braves captured their first ever Provincial Title with
a two game sweep of the Wesman
Diamond Dogs
in the best of three championship. Leading 1 game to 0 going
into game two,
the Braves started slowly by allowing the Diamond Dawgs to get out
to a 6- 1 lead by the top of the
fourth inning before storming back with seven runs in the bottom of
the inning to take an 8 - 6 lead.
The Braves scored an additional run in the bottom of the fifth inning
which gave them a 9 - 6 lead going
into the seventh and final inning of regulation play. Well,
the Diamond Dawgs weren't done yet as they
scored three runs in the top of the seventh to tie it up and send
it into extra innings. In the first extra
inning, the Diamond Dawgs scored in the top half of the inning to
take a 10 - 9 lead into the bottom
of the eighth where the Braves subsequently scored a single run to
send the game into the ninth nning.
This set up the dramatic bottom of the ninth inning two out victory
with Braves Matt Joyal scoring the winning run, coming home on an
overthrow at third base by the Diamond Dawgs catcher.
Reliever Erik Olson registered the victory for the Braves while Diamond
Dawgs reliever Ryan Argue
took the loss.

40 Braves Win Their Second Straight Tournament Of The Season In
Lundar The
Over 40 Braves took their second tournament victory in as many attempts
this season with
victories over Hwy 6 by a score of 11 - 1 in five innings and a come
from behind 11 -6 victory over
the Chatfield Cardinals in the final. With the Cardinal
holding a 5 - 1 lead going into the third inning, Springfield rebounded
by scoring three runs on a home run by shortstop Bryan Hellegards.
The Braves surrendered one run in the bottom of the third inning
to make the score 6 - 4 in favour of Chatfield. Top
of the fourth, the Braves storm back with four runs highlighted by
another 3 run shot, this time off the
bat of closing pitcher Curtis Palidwor giving the Braves an 8 - 6
lead. Chatfield came back with one run
in the bottom of the fifth inning to close the gap to an 8 - 7 Braves
lead. Top of the sixth with one out,
Braves catcher Boyd Welsh beats out a bunt single down the third base
line to be followed by Gerry "Boomer" Palidwor in a display
of what can only be called raw scintillating speed (observers were
heard arguing over whether it was dust or smoke that was seen trailing
Boomer down the
first baseline) beating out an infield hit to leave runners safe at
first and second with one out. The
Cardinals then elected to intentionally walk the next batter Bryan
Hellegards, who had hit a three run
shot earlier, in order to load the bases for the next batter Curtis
Palidwor. Curtis took this as a slight
and drilled the first pitch way over the left field wall for his second
home run, this time a grand slam
giving the Braves an 11 - 6 lead which they held to games end.
Starter Gerry "Boomer" Palidwor took the game one win, while
reliever Curtis Palidwor registered the
victory in the final game. Middle reliever Jeff Joyal threw
three shutout innings, two in the first game
and one in the final game.

Braves Win The WJBL Title 2 Games To 1 over St. Boniface Legionaires Following
a 4-3 game 1 victory on Wed night, the Braves took a 1-0 best of 3
series lead into Sunday.
-- Game two saw the Braves drop a 5 -3 decision to tie
the series at one game apiece.
-- This set up the game 3 winner take all finale. Well............
the tribe stumbled out of the gate with
starting pitcher Matt Joyal surrendering 5 runs in the bottom of the
first before reliever Curtis Joyal
came on to close out the inning with the Braves trailing 6-0. The
tribe called a quick huddle in the
dugout and were reminded of games past where they had rallied and
also there was still six innings
to play. Thus, with reliever Curtis Joyal shutting the door
allowing no more runs in the final six innings,
the Braves scored two in the second, four in the third to tie the
game, highlighted by a RBI triple by
Mike Lawson and with Matt Joyal earning redemption by pounding a three
run double to take the lead
in the fourth, the Braves cruised to a 10 - 6 victory to earn their
second WJBL title in a row
and 3rd in four years !!!!!!!! ---------------------------------------
